3D games in Facebook!
There's an announcement reverberating around the internets that the big-budget MMOG Runes of Magic is going into browser and facebook later this year.
People are suddenly talking that the future of console-quality gaming “may be in the browser”. At Magma we’ve believed this for the last two years, and have already successfully launched our own 3D MMOG World of Temasek which runs in any browser, and on both PC and Mac. So why aren’t 3D games big yet on facebook?
The answer is that 3D games until very recently required lofty (for casual gamers) system requirements – even requiring a dedicated graphics card. Any 3D game in facebook must be able to run on old laptops with integrated graphics. Another reason is that 3D games required a client download and installation/registration process – which casual gamers are unwilling to put up with. People expect instant gratification and absolutely zero hassle when entering an online game now.
Thankfully, with engines like Unity3D that allow 3D games to stream right in the browser, the age of console-quality games in facebook is just around the corner. Hold off on buying that expensive game console! See our social games page for more...
